Welcome to Car-a-mel?
In honor of National Caramel Day (April 5), the iconic caramel brand, Werther’s Original, ignited a national debate about how to pronounce caramel and brought the debate to voting headquarters here in Carmel.
To celebrate the food holiday, Carmel Mayor James Brainard officially changed the town’s name and pronunciation to Caramel (ker-uh-muhl) and Indianapolis-born celebrity Trista Sutter and Carmel-born former NFL player Mark Herrmann were on-site to join in the fun.
